Carpet Cleaning FAQ — Mission Hills, CA

Common questions from homeowners in Mission Hills and the surrounding area. If your question isn't here, call us and we'll give you a straight answer.

When can we walk on the carpet again after you finish?

Most Mission Hills homes are dry in 4 to 6 hours. Low humidity works in your favor here, and in a hot dry Valley summer with the air moving you may be closer to 3 hours. Winter jobs between December and March run longer because the air holds more moisture and the sun sits lower. You can walk on damp carpet in clean socks right away; hold off on putting heavy furniture back or laying rugs down until it's dry to the touch.

Walk me through what actually happens on the day of the job.

We inspect the carpet first, check the fiber type and backing, and point out any spots that may not come all the way out. Then we vacuum, move the furniture we've agreed to move, pre-treat traffic lanes and stains, and let the solution dwell. Extraction comes next with a truck-mounted or portable unit depending on your driveway and layout. We groom the pile, place blocks or tabs under furniture legs, and set up air movers before we walk you through the finished rooms.

Hot-water extraction, shampooing, dry cleaning: which one do I need?

Hot-water extraction is what we use on most jobs. It flushes out the fine dust and decomposed-granite grit that works its way down to the backing in this part of the northeast San Fernando Valley. Shampooing has a place on heavily soiled commercial-grade loop carpet where agitation matters more than rinse volume. Dry or low-moisture cleaning suits delicate wool, some Karastan and Masland goods, and situations where a room has to be back in service fast. We tell you which one we're using and why before we start.

How often should carpet in a Mission Hills house be cleaned?

Every 12 to 18 months covers a typical household. Cut that to every 6 to 9 months if you have pets, kids, or a home that sits close to the Pacoima Wash or Tujunga Wash corridors. Santa Ana wind events push a surprising amount of dust indoors, and late summer and fall wildfire smoke leaves soot that settles into the pile. Manufacturers like Shaw and Mohawk also require professional cleaning on a set schedule to keep a warranty intact.

How is my quote figured out, and what do I have to do to get one?

The estimate is free and the quote is firm before anyone touches your carpet. What moves the number: how many rooms and stairs, the square footage, fiber and construction, how deep the soil goes, pet treatment, and whether furniture needs moving. A single-story ranch with three bedrooms prices differently than a split-level with a stair run. We look at the carpet, give you one number in writing, and that number doesn't change mid-job.

Do you move the furniture, or should I clear the rooms first?

We move sofas, chairs, coffee tables, dining sets, and similar pieces as part of the job. We leave beds, pianos, china cabinets with contents, entertainment centers with electronics, and anything on a wall mount. Clearing small items off the floor ahead of time, shoes, toys, laundry baskets, pet bowls, speeds things up and lets us clean more of the floor. Tell us on the phone what's in the room and we'll factor it into the quote.

Which stains come out and which ones are permanent?

Food, drink, mud, tracked-in grit, general traffic soil, and most pet accidents respond well. Stainmaster and other treated nylons release soil more readily than untreated olefin. What often won't come out: bleach and benzoyl peroxide marks, dye from red drinks left to set, rust, ink, pet urine that has reached and stained the backing or pad, and permanent sun fade along a south-facing window. We flag these during the walkthrough so you know before we start rather than after.

Is any of this a problem for my dog or my toddler?

No. Our solutions are rinsed out of the carpet, not left sitting in it, and we use products cleared for use in occupied homes. Keep pets and small children in another room while we work, mostly so nobody trips over a hose. Once the carpet is dry to the touch, normal use is fine. If someone in the house has asthma or a chemical sensitivity, say so and we'll adjust what we use.

Can you clean the couch, the area rugs, and the tile floors too?

Yes to all three. Upholstery gets fiber-appropriate cleaning, which matters on microfiber and on anything with a natural-fiber weave. Area rugs can be cleaned in place or taken off-site when a wool or hand-knotted piece needs a controlled wash and dry. Tile and grout cleaning uses pressure and heat plus a rinse, and we can seal grout afterward. Bundling these with a carpet job on the same visit usually costs less than booking them separately.

Do you have openings today, and how far out do you travel?

Same-day slots are usually available, and morning calls have the best shot at an afternoon window. We cover Mission Hills and the surrounding northeast San Fernando Valley inside the City of Los Angeles, at the base of the Santa Susana/Verdugo foothill transition near the 405/118 junction. The 1950s-1970s tract ranch and split-level homes here, on slab-on-grade or raised foundations with few basements, are what we work in every day. Call and tell us your cross streets and we'll confirm the time.
